ABOUT THE WWBA
Our History
The WWBA was founded in 2019 in Cambridge City as a high school project with a clear purpose: to create an organized basketball league for young adults in our community. At the time, we recognized a gap in structured opportunities for competitive play and set out to build something that would bring players together in a meaningful way.
With the support of our local Community Christian Church, which generously provided access to its facility throughout the summer, the WWBA was able to launch its inaugural 3-on-3 league season. That partnership laid the foundation for what would become a growing and competitive organization.
In April 2019, the league hosted its first-ever WWBA Draft, where team captains were selected to lead their franchises into the inaugural season. The format featured a seven-game regular season followed by an in-depth playoff structure, including a best-of-three Conference Championship series and a best-of-five Finals Championship series.
The league began with six original franchises divided into two conferences:
Western Conference
-
Cambridge City Comets
-
Mount Auburn Mystics
-
Dublin Dodgers
-
Eastern Conference
-
Pershing Pioneers
-
Milton Monarchs
-
Jacksonburg Jaguars
-
The inaugural season concluded with an exciting Finals series between the Dublin Dodgers and the Jacksonburg Jaguars. In a hard-fought championship that went the full five games, the Dublin Dodgers claimed the first WWBA title in league history.
What began as a high school vision quickly became a competitive and community-driven league — built on passion, organization, and a commitment to providing opportunities for young adults to play the game they love.
